Preparing Your Home for Sale

After Staging Your HomeDid you know that buyers will decide whether or not they want to buy your home in less than 1 minute?  Therefore, curb appeal is crucial.  Not only must the exterior of your home be appealing, but the interior as well.  In real estate we call the process of preparing a home to appeal to buyers, STAGING.

As an Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) I can help you stage your home.  Here a few tips to get you started.

Cleanliness: Your home must be able to pass the white-glove test.  This means no smells, including air fresheners.  The windows need to sparkle.  There can be no cobwebs, dust, or mildew on surfaces.

Clutter: Pack up and store your knick knacks.  Remove out of season clothes from your closets. Take down pictures of your family and most of your artwork.  In the kitchen and bathrooms, clear away as many items from the counters as possible.  Remember that you are selling square footage and clutter makes you home appear smaller.

After Staging Your HomeColor: Your walls should be painted in neutral, earthy tones.  Carpeting should be beige.

Exterior: Keep your lawn mowed and edged.  Weed and apply a fresh layer of mulch in the flower and shrub beds.  Power wash the house, the driveway and walkway.  Clean the light fixtures and be sure there are no cobwebs around the front entry.  If your front door is looking faded apply a new coat of paint.

There is much more to effectively staging your home and most of it requires very little money.  I will customize a staging plan for you.
